Build it

How to build a photo booth yourself

Most of a homemade booth is furniture. The difficult part is the thing that takes the picture, shows it to the room and keeps it afterwards, and that part is a browser tab.

The kit list

  • A stand, so the camera sits at face height and stays there when somebody knocks it.
  • A light in front of the subject, soft, rather than the lamp already in the ceiling.
  • A backdrop: a curtain, a painted wall, or a bedsheet pulled properly tight.
  • Props, in a box, within arm's reach of where people will stand.
  • Something that takes the picture, shows it to the room and keeps it. That part is this site.

What comes out of the last part

A guest reaching past the props box towards the camera
Friends crowding under a string of lights for a picture
A guest checking the picture on their own phone
